www.longy.eduLongy School Of Music Mission Statement:The Longy School of Music was founded in 1915 to provide thorough education in all aspects of music to students of all ages, all levels of ability, and widely varying aspirations. That remains its overriding purpose.
Longy acknowledges its special role in providing instruction to both residents of the greater Boston community which it principally serves, and to individuals from the world community who have the goal of becoming professionals in music. It seeks to do so in a rigorous educational environment in which small size and caring faculty foster intellectual understanding, growth of imagination, refinement of technical skills, and a full realization of individual potential.
The school is strongly rooted in the tradition of classical Western music. Longy's curriculum also includes the study of other musical forms, such as contemporary music, non-Western music, jazz, improvisation, and traditional folk music.
As an extension of its role as an educational institution, Longy seeks to be a performance center for the greater Boston area, thereby providing performance opportunities for hundreds of faculty, students, and guest artists annually, and listening opportunities for thousands.
